Turning our life around
Turning our life around
So why turn your life around?
1. Making our own plans rather than seeking and following God's plans can lead to disaster.
Proverbs 14:12 insists, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death."
The world has no shortage of philosophies and philosophers, experiences, and indulgences, ideas and ideals—all calling to us, enticing us, and inviting us.
o Inferior ways in producing Character, Morality, and Respectability.
o We are to separate ourselves from the egotistical and anti-biblical ways of the world.
o We are not to walk in the counsel of wicked men’s values, schemes, or agendas
2. So we can find Gods way in life's wilderness
Psalm 25:4-5
4 Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. 5 Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. 6 Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
Life is a journey, not a single step.
This is something David's words recognize with clarity. In this psalm he uses the word "way" four times and "path" twice.
Wisely, David does not lean on his own wisdom for direction in life. Rather, he asks the Lord for guidance.
His prayer honors the counsel given in Proverbs 3:5–6. These verses state:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
David became a man after God’s heart. He wanted to grow closer to him.
David asked God to help him know His ways.
He wanted to walk in God’s ways.
How is this possible? By having a desire for God to lead us.
Prayer changes us by drawing us closer to God, changing and molding us into His likeness in the process.
David prayer takes us through the process.
1. Show me your ways, LORD,
2. Teach me your paths.
3. Guide me in your truth and teach me
Yearn for a teachable heart.
Are you in the middle of a difficult trial?
Maybe you are anxious because of circumstances that have occurred due to bad decisions you have made or a judgment of error or maybe the daily rhythms of life have led you to burnout.
God wants you to come unhindered into His presence so that He can teach you His wisdom, to take those burdens from your shoulders and in exchange give you His peace.
Benefits of being teachable
o God can teach you His ways and guide you into His unique plans for your life.
1. God will bless you and you will find rest! Matthew 11:29
"Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
2. God promises to give you more wisdom and understanding as you seek Him. Mark 4:25.
"To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.'"
3. When God finds someone who is teachable, He calls them wise. Matthew 7:24.
"'Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock."
Through it all, Psalm 25 speaks of God’s character.
“All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees”
